The staff at Meadows Urquhart teamed up with clients Truetimber Tree Service & Riverside Outfitters for the VSCPA day of service on September 18, 2009. With the help of a homeless man that lives on Vauxhall island, the location of the clean up, they transformed an area that once included an abandoned homemade shelter and mounds of trash, to the beautiful earth.
Located between the Manchester and Mayo bridges Vauxhall island is accessible from land only by a railroad bridge, which made cleanup efforts difficult. Vauxhall serves as the home to many squatters and is most recently know for criminal activities. That did not stop the team from doing their part in cleaning up the river for project “Virginia Waterways Cleanup”.
